About the Northern Lakes Canoe Base

The Northern Lakes Girl Scout Canoe Base is a place where girls over the age of 12 and adults are able to explore the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA) on 3-10 day trips. The base is operated through the Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin Lakes and Pines Council.

About the Alumni Association

The purpose of the Northern Lakes Canoe Base Alumni Association (NLCBAA) is to provide a continuing interest in, and support for, the mission and programs of the Northern Lakes Canoe Base in keeping with the policies of the Girl Scouts of the USA.

The NLCBAA is a non-profit organization made up of past canoe guides along with past participants, community members, and other friends of the base. Our goal is to guarantee that the program we all love continues to inspire new generations of girls by instilling in them a love of nature, a compassion for others, and a sense of self-worth.

December 26, 2011 December 8, 2009 Dear Happy Holidays from your friends in the Northern Lakes Canoe Base Alumni Association! We hope you are having a winter filled with peace, adventures, and good times with friends and family. It’s been a busy year with the alumni association and the canoe base, and we wanted to fill you in on some of it. • This summer, the Northern Lakes Canoe Base Alumni Association (NLCBAA) hosted the fourth canoe base reunion. The theme of this year’s reunion was “Back in the Woods” with many former guides doing a 24 hour canoe trip with fellow guides and families. We raised more $3,000 to support the base through the silent auction and Fund-a-Need events. The next reunion will be in the summer of 2013. Mark your calendar and bring your family! • The NLCBAA also continued staff retention efforts by honoring guides’ commitment to the base with a gift at the end of the summer. The gifts each guide receives changes with each additional year she’s guided and may inc

May 16, 2011 Summer is just around the corner and we are looking for one more guide. If you or someone you know is interested, let us know. We are looking for a former guide, former GIT, or just someone you think would be a great guide. We offer first aid and lifeguard training at the start of the season, so don't let expired certifications be a deterrent. If you are a former guide and are interested in guest guiding a trip or two, please also let us know. If interested, contact Ann ASAP -- mcnally.ann@gmail.com or 206-861-5730. Thanks, Ann
March 6, 2011 A message from Kae Crowley... I have been working on a vegetable farm since last May, and nothing brightens a cold, dark day in the barn like handing out fresh vegetables to members of our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). I’m even happier to know that once again this summer, guides and GITs at the Northern Lakes Canoe Base will be provided with a CSA share from Gracie’s Garden on Snowbank Lake. Today I filled some trays with soil and gave our greenhouse one last “spring cleaning” so we can begin planting tomorrow! This is the time of year when farms have a lot of up-front costs like purchasing seeds and potting soil, so buying a CSA share in advance gives farmers financial stability now when they need it most and gives you veggies when they are the freshest! I’m writing to you today to ask for your support in purchasing a CSA share for the canoe base. I think we all can recall how fantastic the first bite of lettuce was after a ten day canoe trip, and with the help of the N
